125 miles of paddling from Devizes to Westminster
Congratulations to Dave Duff and Julie Hicks of Norwich Canoe Club on their excellent results in the gruelling 125 mile Devizes to Westminster canoe race over the Easter weekend. Established in 1948 as the pinnacle of long distance canoeing, it involves not only paddling the 52 miles along the Kennet and Avon canal and the 73 miles along the River Thames but also carrying the canoe and equipment around 77 locks on the way.
Dave Duff, paddling with Mike Chandler an RAF colleague, achieved a superb 10th place out of the 84 senior K2 kayaks which completed the course (an additional 51 K2s failed to finish). They completed the full course in a time of 21 hrs 18 mins and 10 secs. In addition, he was raising funds for the Kandoo Club in King’s Lynn.
Julie Hicks, who came second on the individual event last year, teamed up with Charlotte Creamer of Leighton Buzzard CC coming 46thin senior K2 in a time of 24hrs 22 mins and 36 secs.
Well done to both Dave and Julie!
