The giveaway is in the title Human Resources.
Although we prefer to use the term "Effective with People".
Most businesses have employees but it is surprising how many don't know how to get the best from them.
The good news is we do, and we are really good at it.
We like to think of ourselves as HR angels working diligently in the background, taking away the people management issues so businesses can focus on making their business bigger & better.
Now that sounds like a winning combination !

Are You A Slave In Your Business?
Recently I have been working with a client who has been running a business for over 30 years. They have seen lots of changes during that time, highs and lows but have come through it with a profitable business. However the owners have told me their business is not where they would like it to be and after giving 30 years of their hard work, sweat and toil they would rather quite like to retire -...

Go For Gold
I heard on the radio the other day an American describing his view of the Great British public. He said that before the Olympic and Paralympic Games his view of us was we liked losing. He has now decided that we quite like a winner too! Too right, we are seeing an increased pride in our Country and all things British, we are slowly putting the Great back into Britain!! Athletes are doing it and...

The Devil Is In The Detail
Never underestimate the importance of accurate note taking. All too often, following a disciplinary, grievance or consultation clients tell me that they have not taken any notes – why? Well I have been given various reasons – are any familiar to you?:
1. I didn’t realise I had to
2. It detracts me from the meeting
3. It makes it a bit...

The Anticlimax
I was interested to hear that some Olympians suffer from depression following their big win. They have achieved the ultimate now what do they do?
It makes sense doesn’t it? They have spent their lives focusing, training and giving their 100% commitment to concentrate on a target.
This same focus can be found when planning a wedding, a particular project or getting that promotion...

Do you want to be an Olympian business?
Rewind a few years and our very own Mo Farah didn't even make the final and not so long ago the superior Mr Bolt was beaten by Blake. How did they respond?
Well they looked at how they could improve their performance, so they got some advice, made some tweaks built on their great talent, put in some hard work and got GOLD!
If like Mo Farah and Usain Bolt you need help to improve...

It is the small things that count
Sometimes the smallest things can lead to large results. Recently I learned that plankton gathering together in the sea can cause heavy rainfall on the land. This reminded me of a grievance hearing I was recently involved in. One of the small, plankton like, issues was failing to provide a contract of employment, which contributed to whipping up a storm for the respective company.

You Can Be Faster Than Usain Bolt
Did you know that a prospective employer makes up their mind whether to progress your job application within the first 10 seconds of looking at your CV?
So to put it another way by the time Usain Bolt completes the 100m sprint in this Summer's Olympic Games you have about the same amount of time to get yourself noticed and invited to an interview.
So what have you done to make...

The Olympic Torch Relay Comes To Wymeswold
You might be aware that a certain event is about to take place in Britain in a few weeks time known as the Olympics and unless you have had your head buried in the sand recently you might also know that the torch relay is taking place. Its journey will come to its completion on 27 July when the games begin in London.
As part of the torch relay my village Wymeswold was fortunate enough to...

Interviews or Interrogation
Let's face it, the interviewers, or interrogators, on The Apprentice are pretty tough. I certainly wouldn't want to be sat in front of them without doing my homework first.
So what makes them good? Well the simple answer is - they do their homework!! Ridiculous statements are challenged and they ask for evidence to support the claims the candidates are making.
They...
