Can a lack of training in the Care Industry result in inadequate care?
After the horrendous documentary on Tuesday evening on BBC1,that highlighted the ’torture’ of patients in a hospital for people with Learning & Behavioural Difficulties, it can only emphasise the need for staff to have good and adequate training, which is monitored and reviewed.
Unfortunately as highlighted in subsequent news reports this cannot be an isolated incident. Bad practices are being carried out across the country and are not acted upon, however most are not systematic abuse of this nature, but abuse because of the lack of effective training and monitoring of staff.
The CQC can only observe what is going on at the time of visits and whistle blowing is the most efficient way of addressing bad practices and acting on them. (Although the CQC did not act in this instance, even when a Trained Nurse Whistleblew.) However a lot of staff employed in the care industry are not even given the basic induction training and are therefore unaware of safe practices and who to report concerns to, allowing bad practices develop.
At MJ Training we can train, support / care staff in all aspects of mandatory training, from Induction, to formal First Aid, Food Safety, Health & Safety, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, Child Protection and more. We work with candidates and employers to offer a support and advice service for all our candidates to discuss matters that relate to training they have had, or believe they will benefit from.
As an employer or an employee can you afford not to ensure that you and your staff are adequately trained and supported? Let us help you to ensure your training is safe and effective. Contact us for more information.
