A year in the life of the ipatter CEO - 09 Feb 2012
Another early start to try and get things moving for the new networking launch. I started the day working from home in the quiet hours and then ventured into the office in time to meet our new man from Kent. I have high hopes for him!
I spent the best part of the morning going through the networking product with the man of Kent and then handed over to Andy for the more detailed look at the product. Spent some time trying to communicate with one of my people, but they continue to be quite elusive.
My lady in Suffolk came to the office today to say hello and talk about her events and meet with the team working behind the scene on these all important events. I took her through the model and then Andy joined us for a review of things in general.
Today we also launched the first of our longer term viral campaigns, with a view to raising money for our selected charity. The campaign is all about getting businesses to have their picture taken with a member of ipatter and then we will publish the pictures, along with their contact details and a business tip, or quote from them. At the end of the year we will publish them all as a book, along with the blog 'A year in the life of ipatter CEO.' All proceeds going to our favourite charity.
We had a good day in terms of traffic and both Andy and I are very ‘bullish’ about the progress being made. I just need to make sure the team keep their ‘eye on the ball’ leading up to the events over the next few weeks. Now, more than ever, I need my team to be on the ball!
My top tips of the day:
Despite what we might say at interviews we all know we have weaknesses. In the real world it's important to acknowledge the things we're not so good at. Once you've taken a hard look in the mirror, here are three things you can do about what you see:
Get better - If your job includes areas you're not strong in, you should work hard to improve them. My advice, get a mentor, ask for assignments that will stretch you, or even consider taking a class or two.
Delegate - Play to your strengths. Find a subordinate, a peer, or a contractor who can do the things you're not great at.
Move on - If you can do neither of the above then it’s time to look for a new job. There is no use staying in a position where you always need to hide or mitigate your weaknesses.
By the time I got home I felt wrecked, but I had a final attempt at getting hold of the people I had not been able to contact during the day and then I relaxed. Tomorrow is another big day for me and I need some sleep!

I like reading your blogs Chris, and especially like your top tips! So what is ipatter's favourite charity out of interest?
