Report: Fabcom's first meeting for Fakenham businesses
Our first Fabcom meeting went very well. Our thanks go to Fabcom member Lisa Smerdon (Sweets’n'Things) at Fakenham Community Centre for organizing the venue and opening the bar for us – it was nice to be able to get some refreshment before the meeting started!
We began with an introduction, aimed at explaining what we’re about (and not about) and describing the...

Live & virtual business networking in Fakenham - Fabcom
Some new developments here at Fabcom, with face-to-face meetings being planned very soon and a new addition to Fabcom’s personnel behind the scenes.
We’d like to welcome social media specialist Melanie Harriss to our ranks. Already a Fabcom member with her local business Social Monkey, she will now be running our Facebook and Twitter accounts to help spread the word about Fabcom. Thanks Mel, it’s great to have an expert working for us and we’re sure it’ll make all the difference to our project. If you need a hand with your social media campaigns, get in touch with her – she’ll hopefully be at our first meeting.
Another Fabcom member helping us in the virtual world is Helen Smith. As you may know, she’s the west Norfolk representative for iPatter. Helen used to be president of Fakenham’s Chamber of Trade so has an insight into local business in our area and will be doing the odd 'Patter-on' for us to help our cause. We’ll be inviting Helen to our first meeting too, so you’ll be able to speak to her directly about iPatter and its benefits for your business.
In the real world, our first face-to-face meeting will be held at Fakenham Community Centre (in the bar area) on Tuesday 24th April at 7pm. Apart from being able to meet us, we’ll be able to answer any questions you may have after a brief introduction to Fabcom and a rundown of our plans. More importantly, you can tell us what you’d like to see done for Fakenham’s business community – we’re all ears! The meeting will be as informal as possible and there will be a chance for a chat and a drink at the bar. Please let us know if you’re planning to attend – it will give us an idea of numbers attending.
Along the same lines, we’re looking to introduce a regular networking feature for members. We’ve dubbed it ‘Fabcom Final Friday’ and our idea is to meet up in a local pub (or a member’s premises if that can be arranged) for a drink and a bit of a natter on the last Friday of every month. It’ll be a nice way to get to know each other, find out about fellow members and maybe even swap some business – all on a completely informal basis. The first one is pencilled in for the end of May, so keep an eye open for our announcement.
