Graphic Design from just £45 per hour is outrageous?£120 per hour to service your car is OK? Discuss?
At a few networking meetings recently I have been in conversation about artwork prices. Many of my customers are in the Agency field providing quality design solutions for their customers' graphic design needs or website creation. They tell me that prospective customers are often rather surprised at the seemingly high price. However, when it comes to fettling their pride and joy though, the garage is doing them a favour with their hugely inflated prices. Anyone with an Alfa will be very familiar with this. The guy with twenty years experience and an armful of qualifications is not as worth as much as the mechanic who these days plugs in your car to the computer and then does what he is told.
A curious situation, wouldn't you agree? For those who do not know, the workshop earns its bonus by finishing the job you have told takes three hours in two. Every single job in a modern workshop has a time allocated. The servicing time for a regular intermediate service is about 45 minutes. You will be billed for two hours plus parts. Great value eh?
This is not intended to be a bash at the motor trade, but simply to show a comparison that most are familiar with. There is a good reason why a BMW costs more than a Fiat, but to some they will always be just cars with four wheels that take you from A to B.
Print, design and good advice are not things that are better because they are cheap. Like everything else in life and business, you get what you pay for.
