Bathroom Basics Part 2
WC
Toilets are perhaps not the most glamorous of subjects but worth thinking about none-the-less. Consider both hygiene and comfort as well as clever design tricks such as having a wall mounted toilet pan or concealing the toilet cistern inside a wall. If you only have one toilet in the household and several people needing to use it it may even be worth considering separating the...

Final top 10 mistake to avoid when buying your new bathroom
10) Only take advice from someone who is Experienced to give it.
I know, mention a new bathroom installation and you're suddenly surrounded by bathroom experts who know the cheapest bathroom website to go to , they've got a mate who does it on the side, there's bathroom website and the stuff looks the same as the more expensive bathroom products and so on. Remember the...

10 mistakes to avoid when buying your new bathroom...
6) Buy the bathroom products that suit your needs and the space you have. Be sure to consider consider all your options. A professional bathroom designer will quiz you on all manner of things; What other facilities do you have, how many people in the house and what time considerations are there etc? For instance a family of 4 in a house with 1 bathroom who all need to be out of the door at 8:15 in the morning would not manage with a huge bath and no shower. They'd run out of hot water and time! Better to have a shower facility with the hot water capacity and recovery time to allow consecutive showers. A corner bath and a small shower may fit, but if neither is suitable for all users then a large bath with a shower would be the best option.
7) Don't dismiss what you simply haven't taken the time to understand. A qualified and dedicated bathroom professional will suggest a number of options available to you. These can sometimes be classed as luxuries and dismissed because "I don't want anything complicated or fancy". When you're buying your bathroom products make sure you ask if there's anything they can suggest that you may have missed. A demister pad behind a mirror for instance won't break the bank but it will mean you can see your reflection after a shower. Likewise a heating element in the radiator will mean you have dry, warm towels before the central heating comes on if you're up early in the morning.
8) Get Organised!
If this is the only bathroom in the house don't compromise the design by making a decision based upon the time it will take to fit. Typically a bathroom should last for at least 15 years so don't forget an extra week spent making sure it's really special and "finished" will be well worth the extra time. Plan the work whilst you're away on holiday or make arrangements to shower at neighbour's house or another family member's home. Go to the gym or the pool and shower there if necessary. Legally a good installation team won't leave you without a loo overnight but ask them up front if there will be a time with no facilities whatsoever.
9) Don't expect the various trades to communicate!
If you're relying on subcontractors or have been recommended bathroom fitters who aren't under the direct control of a project co-ordinator then you will need to assume that role. If there's no detailed written specification then write one to make sure that everyone involved knows what is going on. If the tiler hasn't been advised that there's an inset shower screen profile then it's likely to get surface mounted because "no-one told him!".

10 mistakes to avoid when buying your new bathroom...
1) Don't Assume all plumbers are Bathroom Fitters.
That's not to say that they can't do a good job but with the recent crash in the housing market there are a lot of plumber's and tradesmen who are used to fitting central heating systems and boilers out there looking for any plumbing related work going.
If they don't itemise the tiling and general...
