Avoid driving in the major cities: Although in theory the idea of driving around major European cities at your free will sounds great, the reality is in fact you will be stuck in grid locked traffic for the majority of your time. The signs are generally clear, visible, well placed and easily understood by most foreigners. Also, many major rest stops have free maps explaining such signs, roadside facilities, and exits. You may also want to consider any tolls on the motorways. It is also advised that travellers should keep local foreign currency on them at all times. As some small garages or shops will not accept some types of credit/debit cards so this will prevent you from becoming stranded.
